Jan Groos ist Forscher, Filmemacher und Podcaster. Er hat Bildende Kunst an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien studiert und zu 'Soziotechnischen Imaginationen algorithmischer Regierungskunst' im Fach Soziologie promoviert. Jan ist Leiter des Themenschwerpunkts 'Demokratischer Wandel und Wissen' am Alexander von Humboldt Institut für Internet und Gesellschaft (HIIG) und affiliierter Forscher am Forschungsschwerpunkt digitale_kultur der Fernuniversität Hagen und am Critical Data Lab der Universität Oldenburg. Er war Visiting Fellow am Weizenbaum Institut Berlin und TEFE Visiting Fellow am Remarque Institute der New York University (NYU). Jan betreibt den Podcast Future Histories als Teil seiner Forschungspraxis.

Im Jahr 2020 gründete er Metalepsis, ein kleines Unternehmen spezialisiert auf anspruchsvolle Wissensproduktion in den Formaten Podcast, Video und mehr.

Jan Groos is a researcher, filmmaker and podcaster. He studied fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and completed his PhD in sociology on 'Sociotechnical Imaginaries of Algorithmic Governance' at the Centre for Sociological Theory (Kiel University). Jan is Head of Research for the research focus 'Democratic Change and Knowledge' at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) and affiliated researcher at the research cluster digital_cultures at Fernuniversität Hagen and the Critical Data Lab at Humboldt University Berlin. In 2020 he visited The Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society as a research fellow and has stayed at the Remarque Institute (NYU) as a TEFE visiting fellow in fall 2024. Jan runs the podcast Future Histories as part of his research practice.

In 2020 Jan founded Metalepsis, a small company devoted to intriguing knowledge production in the formats podcast, video and beyond.
